A Maize Maze... also known as a Corn Maze

So far, every year we've made it a point to take Abug to a corn patch; this year was no different. The funny thing is we've gone to a different one each year... but we may have found the one we'll continue on with... maybe. The one we went to this year was pretty darn awesome!

But let's back up just a bit. I made it a point we NEEDED to go either this weekend or the weekend before Halloween because otherwise we had too much planned and wouldn't make it, so we went the 15th.

We met up with Jared and Karen for lunch that day and then went to Exeter, MO, via Rogers, AR. We ate lunch in Neosho, drove to Rogers, and then headed to Exeter. Sometimes our crew doesn't always make sense, but we decided to go to the Williams Sonoma down in Rogers before heading to the corn maze.

Abug slept all the way to Rogers. When we got out, daddy grabbed her and her diaper leaked all over her skirt and his shirt. Yuck... lol. Don't worry, I got some on me too. Luckily this is a shopping center so he ran to JC Penney for a new/clean shirt, we cleaned up in a bathroom, and then went to Crazy 8 to get the buglet some new clothes. Whew!

From there we headed to Exeter and that's where our story really begins :).

We got there and bought our arm bands. Abug grabbed my arm and immediately drug me to the zipline. Sadly she is too little for the zipline so off we went to the slide. I'll bet we spent most of our time at the slide, but we convinced her to leave the slide and go to the little tricycle track for those 8 and under. She still hasn't mastered riding a tricycle so daddy walked around the track with her.

They had a little train ride for the kids. They were supposed to stay seated the whole time. Wouldn't you know, mine would be the one not to listen and when they came back she was standing. I appreciate the gal who was driving because she kept a close eye on all the kids and I apologize that Abug didn't stay seated.

Then we went through the corn maze. At 7pm it became a haunted corn maze. Now I'm not big on haunted house type things so I was a little on the jumpy side. At one point hubby was just behind me, jumped and grabbed me, and yelled Boogy Boogy Boogy. I'm pretty sure I jumped as high as the corn stalks. Since then, Abug randomly yells Boogy Boogy Boogy at me. It's funny and cute.

And this sunset. That's all! This sunset.

It was either a full moon or pretty darn close. The moonrise was gorgeous too! This is an iPhone picture so it doesn't do it justice but was it gorgeous!

After we got out of the corn maze hubby and Abug shot paint balls for a minute while I entertained myself shooting the moon. I'm telling you, it was GORGEOUS!

From there we took Abug over to get her face painted. This is her first time. She sat there patiently, but as we were leaving that night she was frustrated with the paint on her face and kept trying to wipe it off on my hand.

They also had a cotton pit and a corn pit. She loved both of those although she preferred the corn pit over the cotton pit.

They also had those big jumping things... I can't explain... big like air mattresses, but there were so many kids, especially big kids on them we wouldn't let her on because I didn't see that ending well for her.

Inside one of the barns they had a little kids zipline and she LOVED it. Then there were spiny type swing things where you sit on a circle. She wasn't so crazy about that.... but loved the zipline. Go figure.

Finally there was a petting zoo. Her favorite happened to be the bunnies.

There was also a haunted barn. The line was long and I really didn't want her to get to scared... I'd have gone through it though if we would have.... I just might have screamed at someone. ha! just kidding. I really didn't want her to get too scared... she is 2 after all....

I guess I better work on my game face because we'll have to take her spook housing someday....

2 Years Month 4

Truthfully, time needs to slow down! Not stop... just slow down! This little sweetheart turned 2 years, 4 months old. How on earth did that happen?
  • Still in pull ups but getting really interested in panties (a brib to get her potty trained)
  • I think she says Dammit a lot, which was an accident and I can't totally tell if that's what she's saying.
  • Wearing 2T and 3T clothes.
  • Shoe size is around a 7-9 depending on the shoe.
  • Lately LOVES dresses
  • Loves Minnie Mouse and Paw Patrol
  • Talks up a storm! Sometimes we can't totally decide what is being said, but we're getting there.
  • Busy Body!
  • You will be Minnie Mouse for Halloween
  • You love horses and dogs but hate when our dogs get in your face
  • I taught you the Trick or Treat rhyme this month.
  • Obsessed with saying Happy Birthday
  • And now Merry Christmas
  • You love to color
  • You love to do chores
  • You told me the other day you're going to "work" on Wednesday's when we go to the dive shop.
  • You go to sleep between 9 and 11 and wake up around 8-9am.
  • I really need to start recording some of the funny things you say.

Kansas from Cedar Vale, Kansas

Does that title have you scratching your head? Well.... Meet Kansas....

Okay, I'll explain. So a year ago we had 3 colts born... Blue Jeans, Flash, and Cadillac. All stud colts. All yearlings now. We have a lot of horses so this summer we decided to sell a couple off. We posted Flash and Blue Jeans up for sale just to see what would happen. Early in the summer we had a guy hit us up about a trade, horse for horse. We weren't real sure we wanted another horse, we wanted to disperse some so we kind of said thanks but no thanks.

About a week ago or maybe 2 now though, we rethought that and hubby hit the kid up. I say kid because now we've met him and I think he's probably 18... that's a kid to me ;). Anyway.... we got some more info on the horse. He's a 7 year old broke gelding who is just grade. Now grade means no papers. All of our horses are registered. Does that matter? Really only when you go to show maybe.

We kind of wondered why the kid wanted to swap a broke horse for an unbroke stud, but we didn't question it too much. After some discussion, we decided to do the swap. We got a broke horse out of the deal and sometimes they're easier to sell anyway if we were to decide to sell him.

Karen and Jared came over on Tuesday of that week to help us try to get a halter on Blue Jeans because he wasn't broke... not one bit. Not even halter broke. It didn't work in our favor.  Thursday night my dad went back out with us and we finally got a halter on the colt after a lot of trying. It wasn't an easy feat but the minute we had the halter on him, his attitude changed. We had him leading in 20 minutes. It was crazy.

And our only real casualty was dad's arm. Some how dad's arm got struck by Blue Jean's front leg. Ouch!

Friday hubby took a half day vacation, Jared and Karen came over, we loaded the colt up and headed off to nowhere Kansas.

Nowhere Kansas is also known as Cedar Vale, Kansas. It was kind of like a ghost town. Now this is where people think I'm a nerd... I love Kansas. I know it's flat but look at that view... I mean seriously! And the sunsets... OMG, the sunsets!

Anyway when we finally got to Cedar Vale I had to pee soooooooo bad. Sorry tmi but the thing is, there was no where open. We were there about 5:30 to 6 and no where open. There was a gas station but we didn't pass by it. That and the restaurant were the only things open. And this... this is a jail. Probably not used now, but it was used. It was real. CRAZY!

The kid and his friend met us on the road we were sitting along side. He told us to follow him down the road to the Baseball, Football, Rodeo Grounds. Not going to lie, we all kind of giggled at that thought but it really was a nice complex. Especially for such a small town.

Luckily we hauled 2 panels with us to help reload Blue Jeans because this was his second time being loaded into a trailer. Really, he was easy even though we did use the panels. He took about 5 minutes and loaded himself. Smart colt!

But the good thing is we got a good gelding out of the deal that is broke to ride. We needed another riding horse here because we were running shy on broke horses. So that's the story of how Kansas came to live in Missouri.

We don't know what the kid called the horse so we named him Kansas.

Horse Shows

Earlier this month there was a horse show that we went to watch. I'd like to say we showed, but my big gelding isn't 100% sound. My aunt and uncle came up from Southern Oklahoma though so we got to see them more times this year than normal. Abug couldn't understand why we weren't riding the horses, we were just watching. The kid was born to ride horses I guess. I just love her :).

Don't worry kid, someday we'll show again! Mark my words (hopefully!!)

Underwater Pumpkin Carving

I typically get sick twice a year... this year I think I'm at 3 times. Blech! I'm so over this! Anyway... A couple weekends ago we had our annual Underwater pumpkin carving. Yes, I said underwater, because who doesn't want to carve a pumpkin underwater? Don't answer that.

The surface temperature topped out around 78˚. The water temperature wasn't bad at all either. I heard the thermocline was down around 30 feet. I couldn't get past 3 feet because of whatever this is. My ears were jacking with me so I carved my pumpkin basically laying right under the surface of the water.

I've been bugging hubby for family photos all summer long so finally we found a weekend when we had Tbug and it just so happened to be this weekend. We got up early (although not as early as I would have hoped, my fault) and went to the lake to do photos. Not quite where I wanted to take them, but sometimes you have to roll with the punches and I was happy with how they turned out so it's all good.

That morning it was a big chilly. Abug got cold so Tbug zipped her up in her jacket with her. I turned around and this is what I saw.

After we got done with pictures, we helped set up, and then sat and relaxed. This is a typical Nicole Kim picture. There is no explanation... it is what it is.

And this one here, she follows suit....

And this... no clue. One minute my MIL was sitting there, the next Abug made her put her chair on her head and wouldn't allow her to take it off.

Finally she got to though so Abug put it on her own head. Again... no explanation.

And here is a new sleeping position of Riley. I have multiple photos of this.

This was hubby's pumpkin. So there's a story here. This pumpkin weighed 25lbs when we started. So I posted a picture of hubby carrying 2 of our land carving pumpkins on Facebook. Kim teased him and said, is that your pumpkin for the underwater pumpkin carving. So then it was on. We went and bought a pumpkin just for that. It took 25 lbs of weight plus hubby to get this pumpkin down. Then his rope the weights were tied to came untied and he dropped 25 lbs of weight in 3 feet of water. It was awesome.

This was Tbug's pumpkin. This year they allowed us to cut holes in the pumpkin before going down so we cut the top off her pumpkin.

And this was my pumpkin. Yes, I carved it like Christmas. Seriously... how many people do you know that would carve a pumpkin to look like Christmas?

Kim was allowed to tabulate scores. None of us placed. They scored 1st, 2nd, 3rd, best attempt, and ugliest.

Everyone who participated. We had 13 participants this year.

This one here... she claims me even though she doesn't have to. She claims her little sister too.

After we were done and cleaned up, it was time for ice cream. Abug fell asleep while eating her ice cream. This was just before she was out cold, dropped her ice cream cone, and I caught it before it hit the floor. Should I mention it was my ice cream cone? As I was trying to get her out of the truck she was screaming at me like I was being mean. I was just trying to get her ice cream. So when we got inside, I tried to order her ice cream and she threw another fit saying she didn't want any, then ate half my cone. It is what it is :). That's okay, I figured she'd help me :).

Suga Cookies

No, I didn't forget the R in the title. I meant to type Suga Cookies. That's what I've been up to this week so far. 106 sugar cookies to be exact. I actually had a lot of fun. This has been my newest learned skill that is useless. I have lots of them sadly. Oh well, it's fun! I needed to thin out my icing a little bit, that would keep my hand from hurting nearly as bad, but it was a lot of fun.

I Painted a Purple Cat... or something like that

Do you get the reference? It's from Girl Meets World. I love that show. I was a big fan of Boy Meets World back in the day.

So anyway on Girl Meets World, Riley has a friend Mya. Mya is a great artist and Riley draws purple cats. I can barely draw a stick figure so I figured I might as well just draw the purple cat and be done with it.

Ultimately I blame Jillian for this want I have to paint. She's always blogging about how she and her friends attend paint nights and she always does a fantastic job too, I might add. I thought it sounded like a blast. Then a friend of mine hit me up about a big group of us attending a paint night one night to try. Well that was a year ago and we still hadn't looked in to it. Finally another friend brought up something... maybe posted on her facebook page something about one of those paint night places around here and I hit her up about it.

Enter the conversation between Jody and myself. I asked her if she knew where there was one around and if she'd be interested. She was in the same boat I was... looking for someone to go to one with. So we picked a night (Thursday of this week) and then I had to back out.

I realized I had plans on Thursday so we went back to the calendar to find the photo we wanted to do when we came across the fisherman photo.

We had about 5 different options, but we liked this one and it worked out that we both were free so it was a date. We met for dinner. By the way, we had Tacos on not only Taco Tuesday but National Taco Day! Then we headed to art class.

When we got there and checked in, we were the only 2 students, which worked out in our favor. More help :).

So art is made to be viewed from a distance so anytime you think it doesn't look good, step back and decide where to go from there.

Jody cheated and started making cool trees so I stole her idea from her. My photo was a lot darker than the teacher's photo. Maybe I should stick with a purple cat?

Want to know a secret? We weren't really painting in this picture... ha! We were pretending here. The teacher needed it for Facebook. At that point we actually needed to take our pictures over to the blowdryers and dry our pictures before moving on. And see Jody's trees? She cheats.

This is a picture only a mother could be proud of. Not my mother, but someone's mother maybe :). My mom hates when hubby and I stick our tongues out in pictures.

And my finished product.

Then the teacher wanted a picture of us with our picture. Her picture she did with us is just above my head. Initially she took pictures and Jody and I complained we had double chins so we squatted down. Jody was excited because that made her taller than me.

And the teacher asked for a funny face so out came the tongues.... again. Sorry mom :). Love you!

Just call me Picasso. And Jody said we'd paint a purple cat one night just for me :)
