Something you lost... My mind!

Have you ever felt like you lost your mind? Like seriously lost your mind? I have. So let's paint the most recent picture...

Sunday I was reading for my Writing About the Profession class. Hubby took the girls and left the house so that it would be quite for me to read/write/do homework. Earl sent out an invite to Sunday Night dinner saying the theme was spaghetti. Well I wasn't sure hubby would be home in time for that so I told her we'd try to make it if he ever got home.

Usually SND starts around 5pm. at 4:30 hubby calls and says he's on his way home. I asked about Sunday night dinner and he said of course we'd go. Great nothing was made and I couldn't think of anything really to take that I had the ingredients for, except Buttermilk Brownies.

Mmmmm Buttermilk Brownies.

So I quickly looked through the recipe to make sure I had time to bake them (couldn't remember the bake time) and if I hurried we'd be a few minutes late but they just live around the corner so all should be good, right?

Famous last words.....

So I threw the ingredients together, got them in the oven and started hoping for the best.

About 8 minutes in to the 15-20 minute baking time, hubby came in the house and said something to me and I saw the sugar sitting on the counter. Immediately I had a DOH moment and realized I DIDN'T PUT THE SUGAR IN THE BROWNIES. Holy crap how in the heck did I forget to do that?

Leave it to me... Needless to say I took them anyway, they weren't bad, just weird texturally and we added ice cream to the top and YUM! :). Ice cream makes everything better!

Socks are overrated

So have I told you that my sister in law is pregnant. In fact, her due date is coming up quickly. I'm hoping she holds out until at least February 1st because she's soooooo anti purple that it'll give the baby a purple birth stone. Yup, I'm vindictive like that :). Oh and I haven't called her old in this post yet. She's old. Hey, she picks on my hair... I call her old. It's called family!

Saturday was her baby shower. She asked me to come and snap some pictures and we all know how much I hate taking pictures (please read the sarcasm there. We need a sarcasm font!). There were friends and family. There were balloons galore. There were snacks. There was cake. And there were presents. Oh and there were games.

Game #1 - Everyone got a pin to wear. You couldn't say the word baby. If you did and someone caught you, you lost your pin. I lost mine sorta willingly to Tbug... then I could say baby without thinking about it.
Game #2 - The Diaper game. They melted 6 different candy bars in diapers and you had to guess what they were. yuck!
Game #3 - They passed toilet paper around and you had to take the amount that you thought would fit around Liss. I might add that Tbug was a winner.
Game #4 - Put a note card against your head and draw a baby.

One present to note is the fact that my baby girl got her baby girl hangers. But we put special thought into this present. They were purple hangers. Now... we might have taken the packaging off and traded out a couple of the purple hangers for pink hangers so she couldn't repackage them and take them back. Yup, the purple war is on :). Oh and instead of cards, she asked for books with writing on the inside. So.... it just so happens that the book we got her, the inside cover is purple. I love purple and she makes fun of me. I keep telling her that her baby girl may like/love purple someday and she can't deny the baby of that color. And then again she may hate it but it's her decision to make.

Oh and the title. Were you wondering about the title? I'm sooooo glad you asked. She got one set of socks at the shower and said that is one thing she really hasn't gotten this far. My friend Cassie said that socks are the death of new mothers and I blurted out that socks are overrated and the best bet is to buy footed jammies. I'm not kidding. You'll put socks back on those feet 100,333,333,333,444,455,667,234,654 times per day. Footed jammies, those puppies don't come off. Just saying :).

And that would be the overview of the baby shower. Next up... baby's a comin.

10 Things to Smile About January

1. It's fun to think that hubby and I have been together for 5 1/2 years. Now that might not be long for most people but it truly excites me. Part of the reason is in just a few short days he'll be my longest relationship on record and I'm totally okay with that!

2. Tbug turned 12. Dang, where has the time gone? I've been in her life (or she's been in mine...) for almost 6 years now. It'll be 6 years the first part of August. Want the exact day? Friday July 31st, 2009. So I guess the end of July to be exact. That night she introduced me as her daddy's girlfriend even though we weren't dating at the time, we'd just been on a date...

3. I went to the New Year's Day dive but I chickened out this year when it came to actually diving... it was cold that day!

4. We had a day honoring Veterna's with a Try Scuba Day.

5. I got to be involved in an extremely worthy cause give away.

6. Baby girl's hair went up in pigtails and she was a hoot. I swear it changed her personality and she has a pretty great personality without the pigtails!

7. My baby girl turned 7 months old, although I think I want to cry at that too. She's growing up way to fast. She's going to be 20 before I know it. Why I picked 20 who knows. and that would be referring to years not months. months will definitely come faster than years! okay I'm going to stop now before I start crying!

8. I got a new phone case. It feels different than my other one so I'm not 100% sure how much I like it but I love the picture on it!

9. I went to my Sister in law's baby shower. (btw, if you're reading this, you're old. hey I have to get my jabs in when I can. And if you aren't here and reading this... she picks on my hair.)

10. Here's a good laugh for you. I swear I"m losing my mind. I made these Brownies for Sunday Night Dinner. Yeah I was in a hurry trying to get them in the oven so that they'd bake... I completely forgot to put sugar in them. So we had sugarless brownies. They weren't bad but the texture was a bit off... but ice cream solved the whole thing.

The Peanut Post - Month 7

Stats: At her 6 month drs appointment which was January 7th she weighed 15lb 5.8oz which put her in the 29th percentile in weight. She was 2' 2.7" tall which put her in the 74th percentile. So I have a long lean baby is what this is telling me.

Wearing: You're wearing 3-6 and 6 month outfits for the most part. Diapers are size 3. Shoes... well you still don't like shoes nor do you like socks. Shoe size is like a 2-3 for what I put on you but again you don't keep them on so I don't fuss with them much, yet.

Sleep: Your nightly routine is the 4 B's. shower (Bath), food (Bottle), (Burp),  (bed). You haven't been sleeping as well as you were. You don't like to go to sleep as easily at night unless daddy and I go to sleep with you. You wake up a couple times during the night but a binky puts you right back to sleep. This week you've been waking up at 5am for feedings which is way early in mommy's opinion :(. You don't like naptime as much anymore.

Behavior: You're not afraid to let us know when you're hungry or tired. There is a difference in the screams too. You've started babbling. I'm not sure you really have said your first word yet but there are times when you say dada or mama, I'm just not sure you realize you're saying it yet. Although you've said it toward us a few times. You are starting to put your arms out when someone says do you want to come to me, but it isn't all the time yet. You are starting to really learn how to wheel the walker around and while at the dive shop you have a tendency to go up to the pillar where daddy puts his coat/sweatshirt and grab it all while yacking at it. Very funny and yes I have video.

Eating: You eat a bottle 4-5 times per day. 6-8 oz depending on the feeding and how hungry you seem. You also eat pureed food at least once or twice per day. This month you've had sweet potatoes, butternut squash, yogurt, apples, peaches, mashed potatoes & brown & white gravy, spaghetti sauce (minus any chunks) and maybe a few other things people haven't told me about... like ice cream...

Appearance: Your hair is going more blonde about the color of what mommy & daddy's was when they were babies. And so far you still have those pretty blue eyes.

Likes: You like to talk. You like when people walk around with you. You like to be involved in everything. You like to play with the baby in the mirror. You like to be mobile and are getting close to crawling. You like real food. You like your activity saucer. You like your walker. You're starting to tolerate dogs and are very interested in the cat.

Dislikes: You don't care for naptime. You don't like carrots. You don't like beards (on men). You don't like shoes (although we are starting to tolerate them more). You don't like socks. You don't like to be left alone (in your pack 'n play, you prefer us to be there with you). You don't like cold soap. You don't like cold bottles.

Milestones: Starting to be more vocal. Consistently eating real food. So close to crawling that you might be before I hit publish.

Mommy: Mommy can't stand when you're upset. She prefers happy baby. You really are such a good baby though. Mommy gets down on the floor and tries to help show you how to crawl, boy I didn't realize the floor was so hard or maybe that I was so old until I get down there and start crawling. When you aren't around (ie at grandma's, with daddy, etc) mommy isn't sure what to do with herself because she doesn't have you to take care of.

Daddy: Daddy loves spending time with you. He loves to snuggle with you and lately you guys have been playing, especially right before shower time a lot. You guys have started having "deep conversations" with each other. Sometimes when you are upset, daddy is the only one who can calm you down. You are still his baby squirrel. He absolutely loves weekends when he can wake up with you because you are so happy and smiley.

Other: This month we got some hair ties and put your hair up in pigtails for the first time. Not only was it absolutely adorable but it totally changed your personality for the day. You were a hoot and quit sassy.

Dear baby girl,

I can't imagine you not in our life. It's crazy how you go from a life without you to a life with you in no time flat. I wish time would slow down! You're growing up WAY. TO. FAST. I'm still so glad that God picked your daddy and me to be your parents. Earl told us this week that you weren't just mine and daddy's but that you were all of our baby. Stay sweet and remember that mommy and daddy love you! By the way, you're beautiful!!
